Yesterday was a big day. Yes, it was St. Patrick’s Day, but, more importantly, it was E’s 4-month birthday! So, as usual:
Saturday, we woke up to a rainy day, but the rain didn’t stick around. Since the weather cooperated, I got to go to baseball practice, and E got to go on an adventure with A. After E had his coffee, he and A went all around the yard observing the suburban wildlife, and taking in the first signs of spring.
Saturday night, A and I went out to dinner at Mint. It really is nice to get out sometimes. While we were away, E and Grandma read some new books, played, and who knows what else.
No one slept Saturday night, not even Rodie. Sunday, we, yet again, woke up to a rainy day, not that we ever went to sleep. A went to lunch with J, and E and I got a visit from Crazy Uncle B and Aunt E. E was so happy that he finally got to meet them! I’m happy that we got to see them too. It has definitely been too long. The 4 of us went to lunch at Capital Ale House, which was a brave move on St. Patrick’s Day. E slept the whole time, as he does with most things.
After lunch, we had to say goodbye to Crazy Uncle B and Aunt E, and A and I got E ready for his 4-month photo shoot.
We finished up the weekend with a trip to Whole Foods, and now it’s Monday.
You might be wondering why I’m not at work today. It’s also possible that you weren’t wondering that until I posed the question in the previous line. Either way, you’re thinking about it now. So, now that you’re curious, I’ll tell you. Today is E’s 4-month check up! I’m most excited about E’s official weigh-in, but I think E’s most excited about the shots. Who doesn’t love shots?! He’s napping right now. I assume he’s resting up for his visit to the doctor. Before he fell asleep, he asked me to post a picture of his new bedtime gear, so here it is:
Rodie is also going to the doctor today. Really, I need to go to the allergy doctor too, but I think 2 doctors is enough for one day.
E woke up hungry and ready to go!
After he ate, we jumped in the car and we were off to the doctor. We got to the room very quickly, and I got him stripped down to be weighed and measured.
Still happy, he clearly doesn’t know what’s coming. We must have gotten a bad read, or I’m bad at estimating, when I weighed him at 3 months because he was only 18 pounds today. Yes, I know that’s sizable (90th percentile) for a 4-month old, but I thought he was 20 pounds at 3 months. Needless to say, that number was lower than I was expecting. Here are the rest of his stats: he is 28″ long (off the chart), and his head is 17 3/4″ (off the chart) around. He’s a big boy. Most importantly, the doctor said he looks great!
While we were waiting for the doctor to come check on E, E chewed on his toes.
These days, this is his favorite past time.
After the doctor checked him out, we went to his office and talked. After our chat, we headed down the hall for the main event. Shots. 2 in each leg. Poor guy. The nurse got the first one in before E shot her the, “what the hell are you doing to me,” look. By the time she was done with #2, E was quite vocal about his unhappiness. 2 more shots, a little reassurance, a warm blanket, and E was asleep before we left the doctor’s office.
One new thing we have coming is, drum roll, solid food!
E still isn’t sure about it, and A suggested that I might remind him that he won’t be eating the box, but he will be eating what’s inside of the box. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tasted the same. After such a traumatic day, E was still in good spirits.
We got home, and we both had lunch. E was a little fussy, but he quickly fell asleep when I suggested that he might benefit from a nap. I decided to watch the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies embarrass themselves while E naps. It’s only a matter of hours before we get to do it all again with Rodie.
We didn’t have a particularly good day, or an adventurous day, but we did have a productive day! Our fingers are crossed that Rodie’s checkup goes just as well as E’s did, and we’ll see you again soon!
Tonight’s Bottle: Center of The Universe Brewing Monkey’s Uncle Lemongrass Tripel.
This is another new one for me. You might recall A and I tried to go up to the brewery for the release of this beer, but our attempt was thwarted by live music. Anyway, I waited a few weeks and bottles are on the shelves now. It sounds interesting, and I look forward to it!
A Final Thought:
I never made it to my doctor for my shots today. Maybe next time? Off to the vet!
